Fashion Journalism

makeastart:

The degree that orange bitches study when they idolise Anna Wintour, only read Vogue and pretend they’ve been to Fashion Week.

Just saying.

…Although, technically, I am an orange bitch

“Two hearts, one of them will break. Like bad ideas on a beautiful day.”

Got tickets to see Ryan Adams… This time in Amsterdam.

So excited I could cryyyyy

As part of my Interviewing module at uni, I had to find a third year student to interview to get prepared for working with bigger names. (I have a few really amazing people lined up to interview in the next couple of weeks, and I’m so eager to meet one of them in particular!) So although I’m still massively gutted about Shannon moving back home, it was lucky for me that a third year was to replace her really.

I don’t think this is totally finished, but, I thought I’d share it because I just think her work is amazing. Have a look yourself at http://amysimmons.co.uk/

Amy Simmons

Originating from a tiny village on the South East coast of Scotland, Amy Simmons, 21, has always showed signs of evolving into an artistic soul. She advanced from merely scribbling and making collages at the tender age of three, to writing and even illustrating her own stories. “When I was younger I used to teach myself how to draw things I was interested in.”

Amy’s artistic flair is displayed in her bedroom, where she has fashioned a miniature museum for her outlandish sketches and musings on a pin board in the far left corner. One can’t help but wonder why they aren’t framed. “I made a film in my second year at uni, looking at the similarities that exist between who I am now, and who I was as a child and it was amazing how much footage there was of me as a child doing all the arty things that I do now!”

“I always knew I wanted a career in art,” she explains, “I did a Foundation Course before my degree and specialised in the fashion sector,” Amy’s hopes of becoming an Art Director arose when she decided that she wanted “Jay’s job in America’s Next Top Model.” Simmons is now halfway into her final year at University, reading for a degree in Fashion Promotion and Imaging at UCA Epsom.

Amy’s final project provides a strong indication of who really lurks behind the extravagant tattoo - a striking display of a blossom tree and two birds of paradise covers her spine - and numerous facial piercings; “I collected people’s dreams and used their content to inspire each of my model designs.” Simmons’ eccentric idea seems to have stemmed from her love for the film ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, she explains, “I love anything by Michel Gondry or Spike Jonze. Their work always inspires my own.”

When asked what her dream job would entail, Amy philosophically explains that “in an ideal world, I’d be working as a freelance model-maker or illustrator for CD covers or feature films. But really, I just hope to find happiness in life, whatever shape or form that may come in.”
